Successful German-Indonesian Maritime Forum

Sucessfull participation in Indonesia

Solutions took place in Jakarta and Surabaya. The main subjects were current or upcoming challenges as well as opportunities in the Indonesian shipbuilding and maritime sector. This 4-day forum was a great long-term opportunity for VULKAN to network with many interesting parties for future projects and partnerships. There were also individual meetings with participants representing Indonesian and German companies from various sectors within the maritime industry.

The forum was organized by the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM).

The VULKAN Group, a successful player in the global maritime industry since 1889, was represented by Mr. Anis Abdurahman (VULKAN Indonesia) and Mr. Eric Boon (VULKAN Germany). The forum welcomed 11 more well-known industry leaders, including Keller Getriebe, Becker Marine Systems and Wärtsilä SAM Electronics.

Mr. Jan Rönnfeld, Managing Director of EKONID, gave the welcome speech, followed by numerous experts from the maritime industry who gave papers on diverse topics. There was, for example, Ms. Ariane Kiesow, who was representing the BMWi, or Mr. Arif Havas Oegroseno, Deputy Minister of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Resources of Indonesia.

The sessions in Jakarta were moderated by the Director of PT. Daya Radar Utama (one of Indonesia's largest private shipyards). In Surabaya, which is the hub of Indonesian shipyards, the moderator was Mr. Nyoman Sudiana, Director of Samudera Shipyards. The VULKAN representatives took the opportunity to give a lecture about VULKAN’s expertise and products, especially about the use of VULKAN's highly flexible couplings.

In conclusion, the participation of VULKAN was very successful. Representatives of PELINDO III, an Indonesian state-owned port corporation that currently operates 40 tugboats, mentioned to Mr. Anis Abdurahman that they had purchased 15 vessels equipped with VULKAN couplings the year before. In addition to that great news, there will be further technical collaboration with PELINDO including technical training on coupling technology. VULKAN is proud to get involved with local universities in order to share knowledge together with Trakindo - Caterpillar in the near future.

Indonesia has a lot of potential in the maritime sector, and VULKAN Couplings is most certainly your reliable local partner. Please feel free to contact Mr. Anis Abdurahman from VULKAN Indonesia by E-mail Anis.Abdurahman@vulkan.com or by phone +62 215376248.
