The Nits of your screens

Did you know it? How do you know if a screen is bright enough for its surroundings?

Did you know it ? How do you know if a screen is bright enough for its surroundings?

There may have been times when you wanted to work outside on your laptop or tablet and found that even with the screen at maximum brightness, the screen was unreadable ...

While brightness is not one of the major factors for a screen used indoors, it is essential for a screen used outdoors or facing the outside to ensure good visibility.

There are several ways to measure the luminescence emitted by a screen.

The "Nit" is a unit that measures the brightness of a screen. It is equivalent to candela per square meter (which corresponds to the unit used in the International System to measure the light intensity of a surface). An average candle produces about 1 candela.

This amount of light, distributed over a square meter, is one Nit. The greater the number of nits, the brighter the surface.

To help you choose the most suitable screen, note that for full sun use, your screen must contain at least 550 Nits to be readable.
