Non-contact determination of tensile modulus with videoXtens HP

Non-contact determination of tensile modulus with videoXtens HP.

videoXtens HP is a non-contact extensometer which measures strain with a precision not previously available. The extensometer’s design makes it ideal for non-contact determination of the tensile modulus of plastics in accordance with ISO 527-1. It also represents an ideal solution for tests on fiber composites or metals.

There are four criteria for reliable test results: they must be accurate, repeatable, reproducible and traceable. videoXtens HP meets them all with flying colors.

videoXtens HP delivers accurate measurement – in addition to complying with Accuracy Class 0.5 to ISO 9513, it satisfies the more demanding requirements of ISO 527-1 for determination of tensile modulus. Accuracy Class 1 is sufficient to satisfy ISO 527. However, the requirements for the section dealing with determination of tensile modulus are considerably more exacting. Tensile modulus is determined at extensions of 0.05% and 0.25% of the initial gage-length. According to the standard, this change in gage length must be measured to an accuracy of1%. videoXtens HP also satisfies the requirements of ISO 527-1 specifically for determination of tensile modulus.

videoXtens HP delivers repeatable measurement – operator influence is reduced to a minimum, while operator interference with the components of the calibrated measuring system is not possible. Automatic gage-mark recognition and automatic acquisition of the initial gage-length also contribute to repeatability.

videoXtens HP delivers reproducible measurement – videoXtens HP is a complete system in which the hardware configuration and various parameters are fixed. Marking and measurement recommendations further optimize reproducibility.

videoXtens HP delivers traceable measurement – the video capture facility allows the test to be recorded for later observation. The recording is naturally synchronized with the measured curve.

Large field of view thanks to innovative technology

videoXtens HP includes two high-resolution cameras. Their overlapping fields of view are combined into one large high-resolution field via Zwick Array technology. A tunnel with integral lighting minimizes environmental influences and provides optimum specimen illumination.

As the system employs non-contact measurement, there is no influence on the material characteristic values. Instead it delivers non-contact measurement of strain and extension with a precision not previously experienced. A new benchmark has been set.
