Time is the foundation of TSNs (Time Sensitive Networks). In such networks, communication takes place in real time, which places high demands on the time errors contributed by individual devices in the network . Meeting these criteria requires a common time reference of the devices, i.e. the synchronisation of the devices’ clocks with each other, so that each network element can perform its operation exactly at the specific moment assigned to it. Only with precisely synchronised clocks is the correct and continuous operation of a TSN possible, and the more sensitive the network, the better the accuracy and stability of the time server it requires. Hence the need to monitor timing errors – so that any action can be taken against both their causes and effects.
