Shaping a Smarter, More Sustainable Future
Inside Plastral’s 30-Year Journey with Buckleys
How a shared commitment to innovation and progress has shaped one of Buckleys’ longest and strongest partnerships.
When you speak with Tony Wetton, Managing Director of Plastral Pty Ltd, you don’t just get a sense of the company’s history - you get a glimpse of its future. After nearly eight decades in business and more than 30 years working with Buckleys, Plastral isn’t slowing down. It’s evolving - towards smarter, more sustainable solutions that make a real difference to industry, and to people.
From Trusted Supplier to Industry Innovator
Founded in 1946, Plastral has long been a familiar name across Australasia. With offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Auckland, the company has built its reputation on loyalty, expertise, and service.
“At Plastral, we supply engineering plastics, polymers, welding equipment and specialty chemicals - all technical performance products that help industries run efficiently and safely,” Tony explains.
That focus on quality and reliability has always been the foundation. But today, it’s also about how those materials and technologies can help industries adapt to global change.
“We’re looking at products that conserve energy, that can be recycled or help recycling industries, that help industry operate more efficiently and cost-effectively - and ultimately, products that help society and communities and improve their lives.”
For Tony, it’s clear: progress and purpose go hand in hand.
The Value of Partnership
Plastral’s collaboration with Buckleys began some 30 years ago - a partnership forged on shared values of professionalism and integrity.
“When Buckleys first visited Plastral and presented their equipment and technology, it was clear there was a real opportunity,” Tony recalls. “Their technical expertise, the quality of their instruments, and the personal relationships built from the start - that’s what made it work.”
That partnership has since become an example of how international collaboration can strengthen local industries.
“In a tough, technical market like Australia, customers expect solid support and sound technical advice,” he says. “Having a partner like Buckleys, whose reliability and innovation speak for themselves, gives our customers the confidence to trust what we recommend.”
Products That Earn Their Place
Over the years, Buckleys’ products have become central to Plastral’s offer - used every day in demanding environments where reliability matters most.
“The spark tester is now an essential tool for our polymer engineering customers,” Tony says. “And the Dry Roof Pro2 has become a go-to for early leak detection on large construction projects - identifying problems before they become costly.”
He adds that the evolution of Buckleys’ technology has been just as important.
“The Wet Roof Pro’ used to require quite a bit of operator experience. The latest model is simple, consistent, and delivers really reliable results - that kind of refinement matters in the field.”
When Relationships Matter Most
Like any long-term partnership, the real test comes when things get challenging. Tony recalls one situation that stands out:
“A customer was having electrical issues and initially thought the problem was with the equipment. Even though we suspected it wasn’t, both Buckleys and Plastral stayed committed to helping until the issue was identified.. Eventually it turned out to be a fault in their main electrical board.”
He smiles as he recalls, “They appreciated that we stuck with them - that’s the kind of support that defines a true partnership.”
Always Learning, Always Moving Forward
After decades in the industry, Tony’s enthusiasm for learning and innovation hasn’t faded. In fact, it’s stronger than ever.
“One of the great things about working with world-class manufacturers like Buckleys is that they’re never standing still,” he says. “They’re always improving their products and technology, and that keeps us sharp too. We’re constantly learning, exposed to new applications, and finding new ways to support our customers.”
For Tony, the future belongs to those willing to evolve.
“Technology and environmental pressures are reshaping industries around the world. The companies that thrive will be those that combine innovation with responsibility.”
The Next Chapter
As Plastral looks ahead, the company’s direction is clear - it’s about sustainability, efficiency, and doing what’s right for both industry and community.
“Our goal is to continue offering products that have a real impact - that help industry operate better, that save energy, reduce waste, and make life easier for people,” Tony says. “It’s not just about business growth - it’s about contribution.” And as Buckleys and Plastral continue their journey together, that shared sense of purpose remains at the heart of everything they do.
“It’s more than just selling equipment,” Tony concludes. “It’s about trust, collaboration, and constantly striving to make things better - for our customers, for our industries, and for the world around us.”
