Gapman® Gen3 in Aircraft Engine assembly

Capacitec introduces new gap measurement features for Gapman® Gen3 in Aircraft Engine assembly

Capacitec, leading ISO9001: 2015 certified designer and manufacturer of non-contact capacitive displacement, gap and parallelism sensing systems, has added wireless data transfer via Bluetooth® and quick disconnect remote wand options to the Gapman®Gen3. The Gapman®Gen3 is a “next generation” high-precision, non-contact portable thin gap electronic feeler gage, offering enhanced measurement capabilities for an expanded range of gap measurement applications to improve time and accuracy versus feeler gauge methods. Typical gap measurement applications are aircraft assembly including wings, engine pylon assembly gaps along with VTP, HTP and door gaps.

The Gapman®Gen3 is powered by 3 AA batteries with 24 hour life at full operating power. It is supplied with patented, replaceable, flexible Kapton® wands that allow easily measurement of gaps as small as 0.008" (.200mm) with an accuracy of +/-0.5% of full scale. It can easily measure difficult to access gaps between all metals and CFRP composite targets. A contact spring wand version is self grounded and can measure gaps between non-conductive surfaces. The Gapman can record over 10,000 data points to easily support Six Sigma and other value engineering, quality programs. The data can be sent to computers via USB or a Bluetooth® wireless option. Buttons allow the user to toggle to different measurement units (mm, μm

inch, mils), set to gap standard as well as send and delete gap measurement data. Included in the Gapman kit are a grounding cable, quick check block and external USB connectors for power and downloading data and software updates. Capacitec has technical support offices in the US, France and Japan.
