Application in Power Plant UF Systems

Project Background

In power plant water treatment systems, excessive residual chlorine before ultrafiltration (UF) can damage membrane materials, reduce filtration efficiency, and shorten membrane service life. To protect downstream RO systems, residual chlorine must be maintained below 0.1 mg/L.

A coal-fired power plant previously relied on manual sampling and DPD testing, which resulted in delayed data and unstable monitoring performance. After experiencing membrane oxidation caused by temporary chlorine exceedance, the plant decided to upgrade to continuous online monitoring.

Solution

The plant installed the **W501-CCF1.0 Online Residual Chlorine Analyzer** upstream of the UF system for real-time chlorine monitoring.

The analyzer was connected to the plant DCS system via Modbus RTU and linked with an automatic reducing agent dosing system.

Application Results

After installation, the W501-CCF1.0 achieved stable and accurate chlorine monitoring with measurement deviation controlled within ±0.01 mg/L compared with laboratory DPD testing.

Residual chlorine before the UF system remained stable between 0.03–0.08 mg/L, effectively preventing membrane oxidation risks and improving UF system reliability.

The membrane-free design also reduced maintenance workload and operating costs while minimizing downtime.

The W501-CCF1.0 provides a reliable solution for low-level residual chlorine monitoring in industrial water treatment applications. With fast response, high accuracy, and low maintenance requirements, it is well suited for power plants and other membrane protection applications requiring continuous chlorine control.
