Using a CentriFlow Meter for Plastic Pellet Inventory: Case Study

A customer needed to monitor their plastic pellet inventory as it was received and then stored in silos. They purchased a CentriFlow Meter to measure the total amount of product that they received. Want to know more?

PREDICAMENT

A customer needed to monitor inventory of their incoming plastic pellets as the product was sent to silos for inventory, production yield, and customer billing purposes.

REQUIREMENTS

Due to existing space constraints in height, the mass flow meter needed to be compact. The meter also needed to be repeatable and accurate since they were using the meter's readings to compare with vendor's billable tickets. Another requirement is that the flow meter needed to have a local display as well as a way of interacting with their inventory management system, that would indicate the total weight of pellets flowing through the meter to storage.

THE CENTRIFLOW METER OFFERING

The standard CentriFlow Meter is under 36 in in height. It also met their repeatability and accuracy requirements. The meter's accuracy is +/-0.25% with a repeatability of +/-0.10%. The digital electronics that comes standard with every CentriFlow Meter features a color, touchscreen HMI that displays both flow rate and total, directly on the main run screen.  It will output the flow information via a 4-20 mA output as well as over Ethernet/IP.

CONCLUSIONS

Once the CentriFlow Meter was installed and the unit was calibrated it began performing reliably and well within the stated accuracy. The customer is now able to monitor how much material is delivered to each silo and has seen improvements in both inventory control and production management.
