Bistable brake
A bistable brake can stay in brake position or release position without consuming energy. To change a bistable brake from braking to released state or vice versa, all that is needed is a DC pulse with approximately 100 milliseconds duration. Because no power is used except during switching pulses, the power consumed and heat dissipated are much lower than if a normal electromagnetic brake.
Aplications:
Bistable brakes are the most efficient on the market. The main applications are those where it is important to minimize power consumption like battery-powered applications such as:
• Fork-lift truck
• Electric golf trolleys
• Wheel chairs
• Robots
• AGV’s
