When it gets narrow! - 11 mm high 3- to 6-pole for security controls of ELESTA

Whether in the switch board or in equipment, the construction height is rapidly becoming the cardi-nal question for the selection of electronic components in industrial electronics. Components of the power electronics are designed for heavy loads and usually bulky as a result. So possibly, a single component determines the design of a device.

In applications of functional safety, inter alia in the scope of the European machine directive, relays with forcibly guided contacts according to IEC 61810-3 are used in safety control systems. Con-struction requirements resulting from the standard, like special contact chambers and oversized functional parts, turn these relays into alleged space wasters.

However, if the height drops below 11 mm other components become the height limiter. Just think about three-row industrial connectors according to DIN 41612 type C, which already can exceed 11 mm height. The same is true for SMD electrolytic capacitors, which are used for smoothing in rectifier circuits. With a capacity of >1000μF and an operating voltage of 24V even SMD versions with a height of more than 12 mm are not uncommon.

With the relay series SIF, the manufacturer ELESTA GmbH offers a complete range with a height of 10.9 mm with 3, 4 or 6 contacts. The 3-pole version can switch loads from 3 mA to 10 A. The 4-pole and 6-pole variants are designed for currents of 3 mA up to 8 A. Through the notched crown, the switching contacts ensure very high system availability without an additional coating of gold.

The energy-efficient relay coils come out with pickup power from 600 mW to 700 mW. In the set-back mode, the holding power is 180 mW to 210 mW. Customized relay coils are easy to implement.
