Green relay with forcibly guided contacts

The discussion about CO2 emissions is everywhere. And it justifiably is pointed out that there is no universal solution to meeting the energy demand and to driving climate heating up further. So everyone is called upon to make a contribution in his area. What becomes a duty for the ordinary citizen should of course be a company matter. ELESTA GmbH as manufacturer of relays with forcibly guided contacts has addressed this topic and the relay series of SIS, consisting of 2- to 6-pole relays, is equipped with low-consumption relay drives. The coil ratings were reduced by an average of 33% and the holding power, necessary for the lowering operation e.g. by means of PWM, by around 50%.

Since these relays are used in circuits serving functional safety and are used continuously during operation, it is not only the reduced power consumption and the lower energy consumption that are playing a role, but also the heat generated by the relay coil. Consequently, a further energy saving effect is added. The power dissipation of the relay coil and the associated self-heating of the switching devices are reduced. Therefore additional measures for heat dissipation can be omitted.

In the sensitive variants of the relay series SIS the excitation voltage range of the relay coil is expanded significantly. This means for example, that a 24 VDC relay coil of the SIS 2 SEN series can be operated at an ambient temperature of 20 °C even with 80 VDC without overheating. Thus, the work area can be massively expanded upwards to 36%.

Despite the energy-efficient relay coils other important relay parameters remain unchanged. The contact reliability, as well as the shock and vibration resistance is not affected by using these low-power coils.
