Kellogg''s Requiring Farmers to Publish Carbon Footprint and Emissions Goals

The company, which controls huge household name brands from Cornflakes to Pringles, unveiled its sustainability report featuring new goals for 2020 to expand the use of low carbon energy, reduce water use and eliminate waste, along with a commitment towards more responsible sourcing of the company''s top ten ingredients and materials.

According to Kellogg''s, upstream agriculture emissions are the single largest source of emissions in their value chain. The company will focus its efforts on achieving agricultural emissions reductions. The company''s commitments will place new demands on farmers, but Kellogg''s has pledged to work closely with suppliers to help them increase resilience to climate change, enhance efficiency of crop yields, and improve soil health.

Kellogg''s is also committed to reducing energy, greenhouse gas emissions and water use by an additional 15 per cent per metric tonne of food produced by 2015. One such tactic that could contribute well towards this could be the harvesting of rainwater in farming. The Enduramaxx range of rainwater tanks comprises vertical storage tanks and horizontal tanks made from very tough UV-stabilised polyethylene, enabling farmers to store large volumes of water for when required.
