Compression Spray Molding – A strong light-weight solution

These include all common reinforcement fibers in conjunction with thermoplastic and thermoset matrices. In February 2015 FRIMO North America won a key project to deliver the production line for a new upper middle class SUV load floor. In close cooperation with the customer and material supplier FRIMO developed an innovative composite load floor processing system utilizing core technologies from the FRIMO Group to provide a light-weight alternative to established load floor technology. This innovative Compression Spray Molding System will use a composite tri-laminate layer of fiberglass mat and corrugated cardboard to create the core of the load floor. The product will then be sprayed with a proprietary rigid urethane on both sides and compression molded for final finish and tolerances. The end result is an extremely strong light weight product that will outperform the existing load floor system being used and offer a weight savings for the vehicle that it will be installed in. The system will be capable of producing 500,000 parts per year and will consist of two 400 Ton compression presses, two FRIMO PURe spray metering systems and four robots to handle the products and spray equipment. FRIMO will also provide the compression tooling for this product which will have an integral trim system built into the tools for one step processing.
