Gates goes to new lengths for belt drive applications
PowerGrip™ GT4™ range extension stretches scope and capability for OEMs and end users
LUXEMBOURG CITY, Dec., 15, 2022 – Gates (NYSE: GTES), a leading global provider of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions, is creating more valuable opportunities for OEMs and end users to specify its class leading PowerGrip GT4 range of synchronous timing belts with the addition of new lengths in both 8MGT and 14MGT formats.
The 8MGT belt range now comprises 14 new lengths to add to the existing 34-strong portfolio, while the 14MGT range features one new model with a pitch length of 4004mm. Overall minimum and maximum lengths remain the same – 328mm to 4400mm for the 8MGT and 966mm to 6860mm for the 14MGT – but importantly the infilling of new sizes offers greater scope for both new applications and replacement in MRO situations.
Many of the new introductions for the 8MGT range fill in important gaps in the offering with 10 new lengths now available between pitch lengths of 976mm and 2080mm. This provides operators with increased flexibility to really address application efficiencies and running costs.
Since its launch in 2020 PowerGrip GT4 has helped transform belt drive applications for the better across numerous industries. With its market-leading power-carrying capacity and combination of a larger temperature range and improved chemical resistance, it produces outstanding all-round performance. It is ideal for the latest equipment which is increasingly designed with narrower drives and developed for a much broader range of industrial applications.
Gates utilized its extensive OE knowledge to deliver the kind of design flexibility that plant and equipment manufacturers require to respond to the need for increased power capabilities that also meet stringent emissions control regulations.
While distributors can enjoy the benefits of promoting a belt with a higher-performance offering in more sizes, end users running industrial drives as part of their operations will also experience a lower total cost of ownership. The improved characteristics and expanded range of the PowerGrip GT4 also support additional market opportunities, such as the trend to convert roller chain applications to belt drive solutions. This enables the replacement of high-maintenance chains with high-performance belts.
The PowerGrip GT4 reflects Gates’ dedication to innovation in materials science and process engineering. While many of the elastomer synchronous belts in the market today are made using chloroprene, a material that has limitations, the EE formulation of the PowerGrip GT4 belt delivers much higher performance. Having pioneered EE technology to automotive markets in the form of Micro-V® belts, Gates has been inspired to apply that success to the PowerGrip GT4 for industrial markets.
