The key to a successful restoration
GEDA transport platforms are contributing to the successful renovation of the historic Zagreb Cathedral.
The devastating earthquake that ravaged Zagreb in 2020 inflicted considerable damage across the entire city, and the historic cathedral was not spared its destructive power. Zagreb Cathedral is currently undergoing restoration to repair the damage, and the work is proceeding at a rapid pace. The cathedral, which is one of Croatia’s most precious cultural and architectural assets, is the subject of a comprehensive renovation project that began in May 2023 and is expected to take another five years to complete. Two GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platforms are playing a pivotal role in this challenging assignment.
The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platforms are fitted with the platform A variant, measuring 1.45 metres by 1.65 metres. These platforms are capable of carrying an impressive 2,000 kg. The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP offers a lifting speed of 12 m/min in passenger mode and 24 m/min in goods mode. Thanks to two separate sets of controls, both people and materials can be transported safely and efficiently. This is particularly important because each GEDA transport platform is two pieces of equipment in one, functioning as both a passenger lift and a goods lift.
One especially noteworthy feature of these lifts is their innovative GEDA UNI-X-MAST system, with two masts ensuring a smooth ride and low anchoring forces. In Zagreb, this is allowing each lift to be anchored via the scaffolding. In this case, German company GEDA’s decades of experience as a manufacturer of industrial and construction lifts has been particularly useful, as a custom solution had to be devised for the cathedral. Standing 108 metres tall, the building on this project exceeded the maximum conveyor height (100 metres) of the popular and dependable GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platform. It is this adaptability and precision that we have to thank for how smoothly restoration work on this historic landmark is progressing.
The two GEDA transport platforms serve three stops overall, each of which is fitted with GEDA Comfort landing safety gates. This ensures that workers can safely step across at various levels of the cathedral, minimising the risk of accidents.
The restoration of the historic cathedral in Zagreb is an impressive demonstration of the use of state-of-the-art technology and innovative solutions to conserve our cultural heritage. The combination of historical significance and cutting-edge technology in the form of the GEDA transport platforms is allowing the restoration teams to work safely and efficiently at dizzying heights.
