GEDA's Contribution to the Critical Infrastructure of the United States

The GEDA SH1000 US in Action at the Port of New Orleans

The GEDA SH1000 US is specifically designed for port operations and plays a crucial role in supporting maintenance work at the Port of New Orleans. This port, among the most significant in the USA, utilizes six service hoists from GEDA, the Bavarian industrial and construction lift manufacturer.

Located in the state of Louisiana, the Port of New Orleans sits along the well-known Mississippi River. The city is famous for its grand Mardi Gras parade and vibrant jazz culture. The cultural diversity continues to draw an increasing number of visitors, and more cruise ships are beginning their journeys from this port, making it a vital trade and commerce hub in the USA. GEDA has equipped the port with six of its SH1000 US service elevators to assist in its operations.

The Port of New Orleans is a deep-water port uniquely positioned with access to over 30 significant inland and Canadian destinations. The port's reach extends over 14,500 miles of navigable waterways. Port NOLA, the port operator, not only handles water freight but also manages rail transport and offers cruise services. With industrial real estate around the port, the company provides spaces for both small and large commercial vendors as well as maritime usage. This location is highly attractive, and ensuring smooth operations at the port is paramount. This is where the six GEDA SH1000 US elevators play a crucial role.

GEDA SH1000 US

The GEDA SH1000 US is a service elevator designed specifically for operation on container cranes. It primarily serves to transport service personnel of up to six people to their work locations within the Port of New Orleans. The GEDA SH series elevators can handle heights up to 200 meters. Not only does the elevator transport personnel, but it also aids in maintenance by carrying up to 500 kg of materials and tools. The uniqueness of projects with GEDA SH elevators lies in the specific conditions and requirements on-site, which are closely discussed with customers. With GEDA, everything from planning and production to service is handled in-house.

In New Orleans, two of the GEDA SH1000 US units with a lifting height of 37 meters have been installed on harbor cranes. The platform size comfortably accommodates 500 kg of material or six people. The four additional models used at the port have a lifting height of 45 meters. These larger platforms of the GEDA SH1000 US provide even more space for personnel and materials. Each of the six cranes is serviced by the elevator, accessing four floors with a lifting speed of 40 m/min. High and enclosed floor safety doors and the QTV system ensure worker safety at all times. A significant advantage of the GEDA SH is that neither a machine room nor a construction shaft is required for installation.

Seven Years of GEDA in New Orleans

The two GEDA devices with a lifting height of 37 meters have been operational at the Port of New Orleans since 2017. In 2019, four more devices with a height of 45 meters were added. Port operator Port NOLA chose GEDA for various reasons. The close collaboration and professional execution with GEDA ensured that the specific requirements were optimally met. The quality and support have been key to the shared success.
