GEDA assists in renovation work on Oslo City Hall

Multiple GEDA units assisting in renovation work on City Hall in Norwegian capital

City Hall in Oslo, Norway’s capital, is currently undergoing extensive renovation – with the help of several GEDA units. Two GEDA 300 Z scaffolding lifts and a GEDA Multilift P18 Premium made by the Bavarian industrial and construction lift manufacturer are in use on-site.

Oslo’s City Hall has great historical significance to Norway and still hosts important events today. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded there every year on 10 December. It also represents Norway’s independence from Sweden. Following several delays caused by the two World Wars, City Hall was inaugurated in 1950 and is today famous above all for its impressive interiors and carillon.

In recent years, the toll taken by weather, salt water and other factors mean that City Hall now has to be renovated. The first step in this was to set up scaffolding on the eastern tower with the help of GEDA 300 Z scaffolding lifts. Then, everything was dismantled from the eastern tower and put up again on the western tower to continue with the renovation work there. The decision to use GEDA lifts was swayed by factors such as lifting height and speed. The two towers each measure around 65 m and are no problem for these units.

GEDA 300 Z & Multilift P18 Premium

Two GEDA 300 Z scaffolding lifts played a big part in the renovation work on City Hall in Oslo. The two units were used exclusively to put up the scaffolding, while the GEDA Multilift P18 Premium was then used to transport workers and materials.

The GEDA 300 Z is a compact, robust lift and can be erected by a single person. The platform, measuring 1.4 m x 0.8 m, can lift materials weighing up to 300 kg. The scaffolding lift’s 90-degree swivel car ensures a safe transition and easy loading and unloading. The scaffolding company Oslo Stillas Utleie A/S, which is responsible for the work on City Hall, chose the 400 V GEDA 300 Z partly because of its speed and lifting height. The chosen scaffolding lift can rise to a lifting height of 100 m at a speed of 30 m/min. After the scaffolding had been put up with the help of the two GEDA 300 Z materials lifts, the GEDA Multilift P18 Premium was installed there to continue the work and to transport workers and their materials.

The GEDA Multilift P18 Premium can similarly rise to a lifting height of 100 m at a maximum speed of 40 m/min. The personnel and materials lift’s E platform, measuring 3.7 m x 1.4 m, can transport either up to 25 people or 2,000 kg. At City Hall in Oslo, it serves 30 floors that are fitted with GEDA Comfort doors to ensure safe transfers to the building.

This project has the huge advantage for the customer that the same masts were already available for the GEDA Multilift P18 Premium following the use of the GEDA 1500 Z/ZP in previous projects. Both units use GEDA Uni X masts, low anchoring forces, and are easy to erect as they use the same components.
