The main components of a generator set

Generators are equipment designed to generate electrical power.

They can therefore be key elements in the event of a mains failure, guaranteeing power to the facility they serve, or to operate continuously, ensuring the total supply of electricity to various types of applications and projects.

From industry, to construction, agriculture, health, and tourism, generators can serve a multitude of equipment or facilities in a reliable and safe manner, and can count on various types of fuel, depending on the needs and context of each project.

But, what is a generator set composed of?

Engine

It is a basilar component, because it is the one that transforms the fuel into energy that feeds the alternator. Therefore, it has the ability to contribute to the improvement of the group's performance.

In its generators, Grupel incorporates engines of different brands - including our own -, adapting to the needs of our clients and to the requirements of the projects we execute. Our permanent stock is made up of: Perkins, Iveco, Baudoin and Grupel.

Alternator

This component is responsible for generating the electric power. Coupled to the engine, it takes advantage of the energy it generates to produce electricity.

It is necessary to establish the purpose and conditions of the installation to be powered in order to conveniently select the alternator to be chosen for the generator.

Grupel uses mostly alternators of its own brand and of the renowned Leroy and Stamford, ensuring quality and reliability. With a wide range of powers, these alternators are easily coupled with a great number of engines.

Control Panel

Considered the "brain" of the generator set, the control panel is the unit responsible for monitoring and protecting it. In the case of Grupel's generators, it is found on the chassis in open versions, or in the canopy in soundproof versions.

Canopy

This component consists of a protection structure which can be made of steel, stainless steel or aluminum, and that protects the genset against adverse weather conditions, while also reducing the noise it emits to the outside.

Automatic Transfer Switch

This equipment makes the switch between the main source (usually the mains) and the secondary source (usually the set). Operating automatically, it is also used to connect generators that work in alternation. It is recommended to install the automatic transfer switch when the genset operates in standby.

Chassis

It is a steel frame with an anti-vibration system that supports the group and can be used to lift it via forklift.
