What is Optical Bonding?

Inglés Optical Bonding improves the vision of LCD/TFT panels

Optical Bonding is the process by which a layer of adhesive resin is inserted between the LCD/TFT panel and the glass or touch, thus joining the layers so that no air pocket remains.

The reflection of the sun can be a greater or lesser problem depending on the place of installation and the functions of the screen. In environments where sunlight falls directly can cause a large number of reflections on the screens, so that the visibility and user experience is severely affected.

Advantages of optical bonding

Thanks to optical bonding and the elimination of airbags, an improvement in the vision of the terminals and their usability is achieved. By eliminating reflections on the screens, the viewing angle of the same is improved, thus achieving that it can be viewed from more perspectives and in wider spaces. It is important to note that although external reflections can be diminished and improved with other anti-reflective and anti-glare treatments, internal reflections formed by airbags between screens can only be eliminated by optical bonding.

Another advantage of this treatment is that if the device is going to be used in aggressive and extreme environments reduces the risk of dirt, dust, moisture or condensation being inserted between airbags. At the same time, the resistance to temperatures and against shocks is improved, since the additional layer of resin between layers absorbs them.

Finally, the touch also benefits from using this technology because it improves its sensitivity and parallax, disminuyendo en tiempo la necesidad de recalibrar el panel táctil para su correcto funcionamiento.

Optical bonding benefits

- Lower screen weight. The extra protection provided by the resin allows the use of glass of lower thickness and, therefore, of lower weight.

- Safety. As it is protected against shocks and vibrations by the resin acting as a shock absorber, it is less vulnerable to breakage and in the event of breakage it is impossible for the glass fragments to crumble as they adhere to the optical material. This provides a high level of security, especially in environments where vulnerable people such as children are involved.

- Durability. All the characteristics of optical bonding (reduction of reflections, support against vibrations, temperatures, humidity, improvement of tactility ....) have an impact on the improvement of the durability and robustness of the product, thus creating a product with a greater guarantee of use and utility.

Optical bonding for industries

Optical bonding is used in industries where higher performance hardware is required due to the characteristics of the environment, either for security or visibility conditions. Some of the sectors in which its installation is indicated are: industry, naval, military, health, transport, retail, education...
