What is PCI Express?

Allows different peripherals to be installed on a device

PCIe are expansion slots or bus that are located next to the motherboard, they work as physical connections that connect different hardware components to each other to create a communication between them. Once we have explained what PCI Express is, we are now going to detail its functionalities.

Pci express is very useful when the user needs a device with unusual and specific characteristics for functional reasons.

This allows new peripherals or additional peripherals or cards to be installed in the device to support those already installed by default. Components or peripherals that can be added through these slots include :

- TV tuner card.

- Video recording cards.

- Add or upgrade graphics card.

- Adding or upgrading sound card.

- Adding wifi functions.

- Add fax functions.

- Add additional usbs.

- RAID or storage controller cards.

TYPES OF PCIe EXPRESS

Once we have defined what PCI express is, we will now stop to analyse the speed of the ports. This depends on the size of the ports. There are currently five types of PCIe:

- PCIe x1

- PCIe x4

- PCIe x8

- PCIe x16

- PCIe x32

The numbers on each model represent the number of lanes on which the data operates, so the more lanes the higher the data transmission speed. Depending on the needs and functions you need to cover, you will need more or less lanes.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PCI and PCIe

The main difference between PCIe and basic PCI is in the way data is transmitted. PCI cards transmit data in common with all connected devices. PCIe cards, on the other hand, transmit data individually in a way that improves the efficiency and speed of operation.

The transmission method of PCIe cards also allows the connection of a larger number of devices, as the connection of these devices will not affect the performance, which would be the case with PCI cards.

For viewing and interacting with content it is advisable to use devices that promote portability and reduced storage space, such as tablets. Our Pad Kiosk range adapts perfectly to these characteristics, always safeguarding the ergonomics and comfort of the users through the rotation system and providing protection for the tablets through the casing.

PCI EXPRESS FOR ARTIFICIAL VISION

Through the Pcie slots, video acquisition cards or graphics cards can be integrated in order to provide the equipment with new functionalities such as artificial vision.

EQUIPMENT WITH PCIE SLOTS

Our industrial components eRX CL-J1900-PCI and eRX I5-7200U-PCIe can be optionally equipped with a mini PCIe slot that can add extra functions such as gps/connectivity to the device.
