LST and SST measurement with HEITRONICS pyrometers
Land Surface Temperature and Sea Surface Temperature measurement solutions
Land surface temperature (LST) and sea surface temperature (SST) are important climate parameters that provide information about temperature conditions on land and at sea. They are used in weather and climate research as well as in agriculture and oceanography.
LST refers to the temperature of the earth's surface (e.g. soil, vegetation or road surfaces), while SST describes the temperature of the upper ocean layer. Both values differ from the air temperature and are influenced by solar radiation, humidity or currents.
Measurement methods:
Satellites measure LST and SST over large areas using infrared or microwave sensors (radars).
Ground stations (for LST) as well as buoys and ships (for SST) use high-precision HEITRONICS pyrometers to continuously record the surface temperature without contact.
These measurements provide important data for weather forecasts, monitoring heat waves, ocean currents and assessing climate change.
