Precision control of standard servo motors Hengstler now offers the ACURO AD37 motor feedback encoder with a 1:3 tapered shaft

The ACURO AD37 absolute rotary encoder from Hengstler delivers reliable and precise position readings even at high rotational speeds. Now the encoder is also available in a version with a 1:3 tapered shaft.

The ACURO AD37 is intended primarily for use in highly dynamic safety-critical applications. The rotary encoder is optimally equipped for the requirements of such applications: Not only is it designed for extremely precise and dynamic operation even at speeds of up to 12,000 rpm. With absolute precision of ±36 angular seconds and repeatability of under ±10 angular seconds, it achieves maximum control performance. The AD37 is also certified according to SIL 3 (PLe category 3) and achieves a resolution of 20 bits in single turn and 12 bits in multiturn operation. These properties, supplemented by a two-channel redundant configuration, make the encoder ideal for applications with stringent requirements for safety and precision.

In addition to being extremely precise, the ACURO AD37 is also the most compact multiturn motor feedback encoder in its class: With an overall depth of only 29 mm, the encoder is ideal for use in servo motors with limited installation space. The precision and compact design of the AD37 are supplemented by a robust design. Not only does the encoder reliably withstand temperatures up to 120 °C in continuous operation, but also vibrations up to 300 m/s2 (10...2,000 Hz).

Another striking feature of the absolute rotary encoder is its excellent signal quality, which allows much “smoother” control of drive units than with comparable encoders, and therefore highly energy-efficient operation. The excellent signal quality also ensures loss-free transmission of position and temperature data at a rate of 10 Mbaud over a distance of up to 100 m.

With the new version of the ACURO AD37 with a 1:3 tapered shaft, Hengstler has again expanded the application spectrum of its time-proven multiturn absolute rotary encoder. Manufacturers of standard servo motors no longer have to make expensive modifications to their drive units in order to use the encoder, since the tapered shaft allows convenient mounting on the motor shaft.
