New Magnet Cross Beam

Magnet Crossbeam with Mechanical Gripping Arms for Slabs with T >600 °C

Heppenstall and WOKO have developed a crossbeam with two magnets for its customer One Steel Australia to transport hot steel slabs with temperatures above 600 °C.

The magnets are in operation when lifting slabs with temperatures up to 600 °C. At higher temperatures, where the performance of electromagnets drops tremendously, the slabs are lifted by mechanical gripping arms, which are electrically actuated.

The magnets are designed in such a way that the heat is optimally dissipated. The power for the magnets is supplied via a cable cage. The magnets are attached with movable lifting gears to the fixed beam adapting themselves to the bend of the load.

This combined electrical/mechanical solution allows the customer to cover the various needs with one system, which at the same time guarantees maximum safety.
