-Compensating Lead Wires

The wiring from a thermocouple to measuring devices is done using what is known as compensating lead wires.

These wires correct for errors caused by the temperature difference at the connection point between the thermocouple and the measuring device.

Therefore, it is necessary to use compensating lead wires of the same type as the thermocouple.

Using compensating wires or electrical wires of different materials can lead to temperature errors.



-Lifespan of Thermocouples

The lifespan of a thermocouple greatly varies depending on the temperature and environment in which it is used.

When used below the normal operating temperature in an oxidizing atmosphere, its lifespan is about 10,000 hours.

However, its lifespan significantly decreases when used at its upper temperature limit.
