Contributing to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.’s EX ROVR inspection robot

The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. EX ROVR is a state-of-the-art patrol/inspection robot, designed for operation in nuclear power plants, on offshore oil platforms, and inside Zone 1 Explosion-Proof facilities. In order to provide the specifications needed for such environments, any components, including gear reducers, had to meet strict size, torque, and reliability requirements.

Matex offered a compact and high-torque solution for the EX ROVR track drive, arm swivel, arm joint, and gripper: the LGU26-S. With its outer diameter of 26mm, and width of 16.7mm, the LGU26-S is extremely compact, allowing the Mitsubishi team significant design freedom for the drive systems on the EX ROVR. The LGU26-S’ output torque of 2Nm compared to a weight of only 21g further produces excellent performance, even under the harshest conditions.
