Legumi’Pulse uses Russell Finex technology to optimize industrial sieving of legume flours
Innovative sieving solutions for high-quality legume flour production
Legumi’Pulse, a specialist producer of flours and plant proteins based in Hauts-de-France, France, manufactures healthy and natural flours from peas and fava beans. The company also carries out protein extraction, producing two fractions: one high in protein and another high in starch.
Its sister company, Nuttens Services, handles packaging and warehousing, offering solutions for agri-food powders and granules in pack sizes ranging from 10 to 1,200 kilograms, tailored to customer requirements. In addition, it ensures ingredient quality and safety through sieving and the removal of foreign particles.
Legumi’Pulse’s production process includes an initial dehulling stage to separate husks from the flour, followed by fine grinding and classification into three grades. The process also incorporates two safety sieving steps to prevent agglomerates: one for the protein line and another for the starch line.
However, the company faced several challenges with its previous sieving method. Vibration caused chassis failures due to desoldering and cracking, while the limited lifespan of lids and hoppers meant frequent replacements and higher maintenance costs.
Solution: Russell Finex technology
After learning about the benefits of Russell Finex equipment, Legumi’Pulse installed a Finex Separator™ to grade flour into three fractions, along with two Russell Compact Sieve® units for flour quality control.
Meanwhile, Nuttens Services invested in several Russell Finex products to support its packaging operations:
• Two Russell Compact Sieve® units for its 10-ton-per-hour conditioning lines
• A Russell Blow Thru Sieve™ for pneumatic conveying during truck unloading
• An additional Russell Compact Sieve® for small-volume screening
Results
Thanks to these investments, Legumi’Pulse now produces around one ton of legume flour per hour using the flour screening units. For packaging, the company can process up to 10 tons per hour, ensuring an efficient and safe production flow.
