U.S. grease manufacturer increases lubricant filtration efficiency
Aerospace Lubricants boosts filter flow rate by 600% with the Self‑Cleaning Russell Eco Filter®
Aerospace Lubricants, a U.S.-based manufacturer of high‑performance synthetic greases, has significantly improved its filtration process, increasing filter flow rate by 600% while enhancing product quality and reducing waste.
Aerospace Lubricants designs and manufactures a broad and specialized range of synthetic greases for industrial manufacturing operations and private‑label customers across automotive, industrial, military, aerospace, and consumer markets. Its products are widely used in defense systems, aircraft, spacecraft, and motorcycles.
The company’s portfolio also includes high‑performance synthetic food‑grade lubricants approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). During production, Aerospace Lubricants faced a critical challenge: some powder particles failed to mix with oil in the reactor and became burnt. These particles were carried into the finishing kettle, contaminating the grease and rendering large volumes of product unusable.
To address the issue, the manufacturer initially installed a small filter to remove the contamination. However, the solution proved inefficient, with a low flow rate and frequent filter blinding. Cleaning was required after every 55‑gallon drum, taking up to 30 minutes per cycle and forcing repeated production stoppages.
Self‑Cleaning Russell Eco Filter®: Transforming lubricant filtration
To overcome these limitations, Aerospace Lubricants invested in the Self‑Cleaning Russell Eco Filter®, supported by the technical expertise of Russell Finex.
Since implementing the solution, Aerospace Lubricants has achieved a major improvement in filtration performance. The industrial lubricant filter now processes 300 gallons per hour, six times higher than the previous flow rate of 50 gallons per hour. The filter effectively removes contaminants that previously disrupted production, significantly improving product quality and reducing waste.
In addition, the self‑cleaning design of the Russell Eco Filter® eliminates the need to stop production for manual cleaning, ensuring continuous operation and greater process reliability.
“We chose the Russell Finex filter because of the quality of the materials it uses, the flexibility of choosing the power source, and being able to move it around the site easily. We also appreciated the help of the Russell Finex sales engineer who supported us while we tried different filters. The Russell Finex filter has turned our operation around completely. It has allowed us to produce a food‑grade product we can stand behind.”
