Flaw detections: Inspection methods for quality control

What types of defects can be detected by performing flaw inspections?

The most common and relevant defects that can be detected by a flaw inspections can be superficial or deep cracks, porosity on the surface and material crystallizations.

What are common flaw inspection methods?

UT Ultrasound Control – a non-destructive flaw inspection method that uses sound waves to identify and verify defects while keeping the integrity of the sample.

PT Penetrating Liquid Method – a non-destructive flaw inspection method that takes advantage of the penetration capabilities of a highly capillary liquid.

MT Magnetic Particle Detection Method – a non-destructive flaw inspection method, in which a magnetic field is applied to the sample tested, whereby a variation of the flow lines of the generated field are visible by means of magnetic powders.
