More Than Providing IEC 62955 6mA DC Fault Current Sensors For European EV Charger Manufacturers

BITUO openly shares its in-depth knowledge about RCD design and manufacturing, in order to help our customers deliver safe EV charging systems complying with IEC 60947-2 / IEC 61008-1 and IEC 62955.

It is a time of global shortage of electronic components, and the Covid-19 epidemic also increases delivery uncertainty. During the past months, quite some famous European EV charger manufacturers have contacted us to buy the BRCS01 series of residual current sensors that are core components for Mode-3 EV chargers designed as RDC-MD or type-A RCD & RDC-PD. BITUO team has supported most of them in going through the process of integrating our residual current detecting technology into their EV chargers successfully.

The basic request of these professional European customers is to find alternative suppliers that can deliver high-quality AC/DC fault current sensors (also named residual current sensors, residual current monitoring units, or leakage current sensors) to mitigate their supply chain risk. The BRCS01 AC/DC fault current sensor can easily meet the basic request with at least the following highlights

Five installation variants are available facilitating easy integration to most EV charging controllers (see the following diagram)

Accurate and fast detection of both AC and DC fault currents ease the selection of main-circuit switching devices

The advanced magnetic material used for coils to withstand high current impulse and to ensure the sensor work properly in both high and low-temperature conditions

Globally the first IEC 62955 RDC-MD certificate was issued by TUV Rheinland and has been used widely with proven records in IEC markets

However, it is not the purpose of the BITUO team to only sell AC 30mA / DC 6mA fault current sensors in return for meeting the basic request of EV charger manufacturers. LIU Hualei, the CTO of BITUO, said we aim to help EV charging be safer – assist EV charger manufacturers in delivering EV Chargers with proper electrical protection functions to end users. Actually, it is not an easy task to design a reliable RCD complying with IEC 60947-2 / IEC 61008-1 and IEC 62955- especially in a multi-module coordinated EV RCD configuration including an AC/DC fault current sensor, a charging controller, and relays. Therefore, we are openly sharing our in-depth knowledge about RCD design and manufacturing, in order to help our customers deliver reliable EV RCDs.

Bituo not only offers high-quality AC/DC fault current sensors for European EV charger manufacturers but also actively supports them at least in the following topics :

EV RCD design consultation: we offer a free consultation for EV charger manufacturers that choose our products. E.g. we can help EV charger manufacturers in sensor integration against electromagnetic fields above 100 V/m, in order to bid for EV manufacturer frame contract

EV RCD verification and testing: Our customers can send your EV chargers to us to conduct critical tests in compliance with IEC 60947-2 / IEC 61008-1 and IEC 62955 standards, or we can lend our customers necessary third-party RCD testers to conduct in-house testing

EV RCD manufacturing consultation: We can help EV charger manufacturers and their external manufacturing service providers set up automated RCD testing. E.g. we helped a British EV charger manufacturer add automated RCD testing in the manufacturing site of its Chinese SMT partner (see the following picture)

EV charger supply chain optimization: The New Normal pushes companies to optimize their supply chain. For those EV charger manufacturers that plan to have a dual supply chain of Europe and China, we will also openly share our knowledge about China’s electronic and electrical supply chain.

We are open and professional. With a team of experienced RCD experts, we will try our best to help EV charger manufacturers deliver products with reliable protection functions to end users.
