MALDI-8020
A compact footprint without compromising on performance
The MALDI-8020 is the latest in a long line of MALDI-TOF products from Shimadzu. This benchtop, linear MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer delivers outstanding
performance in a compact footprint, making it an ideal choice for today’s increasingly demanding laboratories. This product boasts the world's highest level of resolution and sensitivity of a linear benchtop model designed for installation on a laboratory workbench.
In comparison to quadrupole and magnetic field systems, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometers have the advantage of both a wide measurable mass range and high mass resolution. They are suited to measuring nucleic acids, proteins, and polymers, and demand is expanding particularly in the fields of pharmaceuticals and chemistry. However, these instruments have been close to two meters in height, which limited the installation location. By revising the design, the MALDI-8020 is a much smaller instrument, which leads to simpler maintenance and reduced running costs.
Shimadzu aims to introduce this product to the pharmaceutical industry for analysis of antibodies and nucleic acids, the chemical industry for checking the molecular weight of synthetic products and polymers, and to research and educational institutions that require measurement of a variety of substances.
Features
1. Compact, High-Performance Benchtop Model
The MALDI-8020 has a height of one meter, about half the size of existing Shimadzu MALDI products. Required installation footprint is 25% less than existing models. The weight has also been reduced significantly. In this class of MALDI-TOF benchtop instruments, the MALDI-8020 offers the class-leading highest resolution and sensitivity.
2. High Speed and Long Operating Life
The laser repetition rate has been increased from 50 Hz, for existing models, to 200 Hz with the introduction of a solid-state laser. The sample introduction time has been shortened through improvements to the sample introduction mechanism. In addition, measurement time has been significantly reduced by increasing the speed of the stage.
3. Low Running Costs
By revising the basic design, the need for maintenance and inspections has been reduced, lowering running costs. The ion extraction optical system has been changed to a cartridge type, and the number of pumps in the vacuum system has been reduced.
