Precise Switching of Inductive Loads: The PW 161

New in the S-DIAS I/O family, is a 16 channel output module for pulse width modulation. The PW 161 is used for switching inductive loads, such as solenoid valves and relays for example. It has 16 digital outputs, which are designed for 1 A and divided into two supply groups with 8 channels each. The coils can be supplied with up to 48 V DC.

The user can set separate PWM ratios for the pick-up and holding phase through the application. Per supply group, a current measuring function is implemented with which the load curves can be determined. For exact control of inductive loads, quick switch-off electronics are integrated into the module. In addition, short circuit, over-current and over-temperature monitoring ensures safe operation.

The PW 161 has – as all modules of the S-DIAS series – compact dimensions of only 12.5 x 103.5 x 72 mm. The system communicates via the real-time Ethernet bus VARAN with a speed of 100 Mbits/s.

Project development and programming are also user-friendly with the object-oriented engineering suite LASAL. For simple schematic integration, an EPLAN macro is available.
