Pneumatic Centre-Clamping Vise PZS²: Precise and Automation-Ready Clamping for Large Series Production

Compact design, high repetition accuracy, and pneumatic actuation create stable conditions for automated machining processes

Automated manufacturing processes place different demands on clamping systems than manually operated machining cells. Short cycle times, reproducible workpiece positioning, and compatibility with loading robots are not optional features but fundamental requirements for economical large series production. The pneumatic centre-clamping vise PZS² by Spreitzer has been consistently developed for exactly these requirements: as a compact, automation-ready clamping system with high centering and repetition accuracy as well as high clamping force.

The pneumatic actuation of the PZS² enables short clamping times and allows the complete automation of the clamping process through the use of industrial loading robots. Centering accuracy is ±0.005 mm, repetition accuracy 0.003 mm, and pairing accuracy 0.01 mm. These values are achieved through ground and clearance-free adjusted base jaws made of surface-hardened tempered tool steel with precision-ground functional surfaces. The reproducible clamping jaw connection via fine serration or crosswise slot ensures a stable and repeatable connection between clamping jaw and base jaw across many clamping cycles.

The PZS² is available in four sizes. The smallest variant PZS² 80-36 achieves a clamping force of 6,500 N at a weight of 1.5 kg, while the largest variant PZS² 280-100 develops clamping forces of up to 40,000 N at a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar. The stroke is between 2 and 6.5 mm per side depending on the size, and the clamping width ranges from 80 to 280 mm. The 100 percent encapsulated design reliably protects the clamping mechanism against the ingress of coolants and chips; a sealing air connection is optionally available to further reinforce this protection.

The jaw program of the PZS² includes soft block jaws, reversible stepped jaws with fine serration, and prism jaws with fine serration. Both external and internal clamping are possible, extending the application range to a wide variety of workpieces. For integration into zero-point clamping systems, customized mounting holes are optionally available; grid plates, adapter plates, or fully integrated solutions can be used as locating elements. Additional functions such as a quick-change jaw system, clamping stroke monitoring, clamping force monitoring, pressure holding function, and central lubrication allow extensive adaptation to specific process requirements.

Main applications of the PZS² are raw material clamping, precision clamping, and workpiece automation in large series production. Developed and manufactured by Spreitzer in Rottweil, the PZS² is part of a comprehensive clamping technology program for automated and high-precision workpiece machining.
