Sustainable ball screws from August Steinmeyer

Efficiency by innovation

At August Steinmeyer, values such as quality, durability and precision have been paramount for more than 100 years. Many years of experience, a spirit of innovation and specific training programs enable the manufacturer of ball screws to continuously develop new and sustainable technologies for machining and drive technology.

The more precisely ball screws are manufactured, the more sustainable (durable) they are. In Albstadt, sustainability already begins with consulting, because innovative technologies are created on the basis of demanding requirements. "We promote progress and strive for low primary energy consumption in our products," says Wolfgang Klöblen, Head of Development at August Steinmeyer. "Our goal - more sustainability in mechanical engineering as well as a responsible use of resources." Thus, the company continuously implements customer-specific developments and conducts life cycle tests, for example, to make the best possible use of compact installation spaces as well as to achieve high reliability.

Longer lifetime and lower energy consumption

The company's nut series with ETA-Plus technology ensures optimum power transmission from the motor to the slide: "This not only significantly reduces the wear of precision ball screws and extends their lifetime," emphasizes Klöblen. "It also reduces energy consumption in the application by up to 50 percent." This is made possible by reduced friction, increased stiffness and an increase in efficiency. A positive side effect is reduced heating, which eliminates the need for additional cooling, and the noise-dampening effect of the ETA Plus process.

In addition, August Steinmeyer has developed special wipers for its ball screws that ensure maximum reliability with a minimum of lubricants. For example, should the cover fail, the use of double wipers minimizes the likelihood that the ball screw will fail.

Precise ball screws: it's the finishing touches that count

As part of the further development of its products, August Steinmeyer has also established an optimized thread grinding process for the spindles of its ball screws. This enables microscopic irregularities on the raceway surface of the screw thread to be removed and its surface roughness to be significantly reduced. This results in improved lubrication, smoother or smoother running of the nut, and greater uniformity of the idling torque over the entire length of the screw. The result: less vibration and reduced noise at high speeds, as well as higher quality, smoothness and lifetime. Thanks to the improved grinding process, August Steinmeyer can offer economical components that enable an energy-efficient design of the respective drive and also meet the increasing requirements of high-precision applications.
