GPAINNOVA to Launch DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell for Workpiece Handling in Surface Finishing Automation

On October 4 at EMO Milano 2021

GPAINNOVA, the global leading company in dry electropolishing technology and specializing in marine robotics, medical devices and high-performance power electronics, is about to present DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell, its most ambitious project at the moment. The new equipment, that will be shown for the first time on October 4 at the trade fair EMO 2021 in Milan (Italy), consists in an advanced work cell for all kinds of industries requiring full automation —or a multi-level DLyte process automation— to integrate surface finishing in mass production lines.

This machinery is especially aimed at large manufacturing companies needing to optimize or reduce their production times, thus achieving cost savings and a quick, efficient return on investment.

HOW DLYTE PRO500 AUTOMATED CELL WORKS

DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell is formed by a polishing cell —that is, one or two units of DLyte PRO500, the most powerful, advanced and versatile dry electropolishing machine on the market— and a loading mechanism which in turn comprises a robotic arm and a rotating module. Besides polishing several metal pieces simultaneously, DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell automates the process of loading and unloading the holders into and from the machine itself. The system can be configurated with one or two DLyte PRO500, to make possible high-output and multi-step processes in an extremely compact design.

More specifically, the cell’s structure includes a loading and unloading station, made of steel and distributed in a square-shaped area that has been designed to hold up to 64 holders; a robotized arm (a standard FANUC robot), which loads and unloads holders from the carousel to the machine and vice versa, and a double gripper, created to hold two holders at once for a faster exchange cycle. The front side is used to access the loading and unloading parts to be treated.

DLYTE PRO500 AUTOMATED CELL'S BENEFITS

The new cell offers many advantages for massive production over other similar solutions currently available on the market. One of them has to do with the rotating module; it contains the pre-loaded holders with metal parts to be polished, allowing the system to continuously work without direct human interaction, thus increasing productivity and minimizing the risk of human and organizational error. The system is enclosed by a safety fence as well as several electronic-based safety systems, in order to guarantee health and safety at work. There is also a safety bypass function to safely approach the system to inspect the process. To make it even more agile, processes can be easily automated through a smart control panel.

The equipment offers two modes of operation to meet the industry’s needs: with a fixed-batch size and with a variable-batch size. It also allows to begin to work with one DLyte PRO500 machine and add a second one later. This allows increasing the performance in a very low footprint or combine two DLyte processes. It also offers two possibilities of use: the fully automated mode, where the machine is loading and unloading the parts without the intervention of the workers, and that in the manual mode, in which it works like a stand-alone machine, allowing the manual load and unload, optimization of parameters to produce short series or prototypes before launching production.

Due to all of these features, DLyte PRO500 Automated takes also advantage of the First In, First Out (FIFO), a method of inventory valuation in which assets produced first are also sold, used or disposed of first.

PRESENTATION IN OCTOBER

DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell is already available for orders and will be presented at EMO 2021, one of the most important machine tool trade shows worldwide, that will take place at Fiera Milano from October 4 to 9. Anyone interested in learning more about the new machine can visit the company at hall 5, booth E31, by buying the EMO’s entrance ticket online. Together with DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell, GPAINNOVA will be exhibiting in Milan the DLyte Desktop Series, the first ultra-compact dry electropolishing machines, which were also launched earlier this year.

The new cell is based on the DLyte system and the disruptive DryLyte technology, the first dry electropolishing solution in the world. In 2018, DryLyte was distinguished with the TCT Award for excellence in Additive Manufacturing Post-Processing. Nowadays, there are more than 400 satisfied clients who have taken the step towards polishing automation with DLyte.

DLyte PRO500 Automated Cell has been developed with the support of the European Union's Horizon 2020 grant for research and development of the DLytePRO range, aimed at mass production. The project, started in February 2019 and finished in June 2021, consisted in an economic allowance of €2,370,508.75, €1,659,356.13 of which have been provided by the European Union.
