At Innovation Day 2016, Maximator JET brought fresh perspectives to the waterjet industry

The new waterjet cutting centre in the German town of Schweinfurt sees 70 representatives from industry and the media receive a practical demonstration of effective solutions in terms of ecology, energy efficiency, micro waterjet and high-performance

Schweinfurt, Germany. “Never change a winning concept.” This was the theme of the 17th June 2016, when Maximator JET GmbH invited partners and media representatives to attend their traditional Innovation Day in the brand new waterjet centre in Schweinfurt for live demonstrations and discussions of current developments. The focus was on the launch of the new micro waterjet cutting system “MicroCut V2”, which is able to cut smallest components with a positioning accuracy and repeatability of 0.0025 mm, and the unprecedented “OneClean” water treatment system, which cleans, drains and recycles water and abrasive as needed while conserving resources. The company continues to prove its efficiency with the latest pump technology from BFT: the new Servotron high pressure pump helps to achieve cutting speeds and quality at 6,000 bar levels with significantly lower operating costs. Greater efficiency is also ensured by STM's and Maximator JET's new “SmartCut” software for integral, high-end system operations. Aided by the application engineers, the 70 representatives enthusiastically used the opportunity to try out what they had learned during the series of lectures directly on the system and to explore possible applications for their own operations. The inspired participants concluded their day with a wine-tasting at Peterstirn castle where the Dahms winery provided good insights into the Franconian wine culture using a similar hands-on approach. No wonder then that Maximator JET GmbH and its Austrian partner STM are set to increasingly focus on live demonstrations in future. Interested parties can experience the innovative solutions in October at the Euroblech trade fair in Hanover and the K show in Düsseldorf, but also any time in the companies' test centres in Schweinfurt (Germany) or Eben (Austria) with free test cutting included (registration required). System partners STM and Maximator JET will host another Innovation Day in 2017, and those interested may now indicate their interest at info@stm.at. For more information, see www.maximator-jet.de.

MicroCut V2 – the technologically advanced response to the miniaturization in industrial production

With the new “MicroCut V2”, the German waterjet specialists were able to improve their record cutting accuracy even further to an impressive to 0.01 mm, which is half the value of what was achievable before. This is made possible through an innovative design with a low-vibration granite base, high-precision clamping frame and linear motor axes in combination with first-class cutting head technology and the manufacturer's own fully integrated SmartCut software. Unprecedented precision is only one of many advantages of this innovative solution. The “MicroCut V2” also works much more efficiently than conventional systems. The manufacturer has reduced the mechanical wearing parts to a minimum; the integrated control and integrated abrasive system make the usual ancillary equipment redundant; and the software promotes maximum material, staff and time savings. The modular system configuration ensures that every detail can be customized for highly specialized cutting tasks and that the system may be upgraded or converted at any time. The maximum cutting table size is 1,000 x 1,000 mm.

Ecology as a competitive advantage – the “OneClean” recycling system

With their new treatment system, partners STM and Maximator JET provide a smart answer to rising energy, water and abrasive costs and environmental stipulations. “OneClean” is an integrated modular system for the fully automatic recycling of water and abrasive. This system is able to transport sludge from the cutting basin, clean cutting water for discharge into canals and recycle 100% of the water. Even abrasive, the biggest variable cost factor in waterjet cutting, is recycled to 50% and automatically returned to the system. What's more, “OneClean” fully automatically controls water purification, treatment, recirculation and abrasive recycling straight from the cutting tank, thereby greatly reducing the running costs while increasing ease of use and ease of maintenance. A solid design with a central stainless steel frame and aluminium casing plus high-quality brand components guarantee the wear resistance that is typical for STM products. This worldwide unique treatment system is available as a basic standalone version for separating abrasive and process water or in combination with an abrasive recycling module and/or water recirculation module.

Greater efficiency through increased high-pressure water flow per minute: Maximator JET and STM count on the new Servotron pump technology from BFT

In terms of high-pressure technology, Maximator JET and STM consistently rely on highly dynamic frequency-controlled servo motors which have a much higher efficiency than conventional induction motors. The latest generation of Servotron® pumps made by BFT boast a 45kW drive, a 4.6-litre high-pressure water flow rate and a 0.4 mm cutting nozzle for significantly faster cutting. The average de facto speed compares to a 6,000 bar high-pressure pump, while the wear costs of 2.70 Euro per hour are similar to those of a 4,000 bar pump. This makes waterjet cutting even more attractive across all sectors, all the more so since these pumps offer much more precise, noise-reduced (<78dB) and more energy-efficient operation. The latter is confirmed by TÜV Austria, the Austrian testing authority which certifies impressive energy savings of 24% compared to conventional high-pressure pumps. For single-shift operations (2,000 hours) with a utilization rate of 75 percent (cutting to standstill), power savings alone come to about 3,000 Euro per year.

Sven Anders, CEO of Maximator JET GmbH, sees his company's strategy confirmed in the strong interest. “System partners Maximator JET & STM have been focusing on economic sustainability form the very beginning. This is not the easiest way to earn money, but after such an event, I am more convinced than ever that it is the most sustainable way to success.”
