Changes to drum specifications

As drum sizes and shapes change, it’s important to make sure that your handling equipment can safely accommodate new models.

Traditionally drums are 200 litres in size however the standard drum capacity has changed in recent years with drum manufactures looking to expand the drum size with the demand for higher efficiency and usability. Nowadays drums range from 10-litre all the way up to 220-litre models.

It is up to manual handling manufactures to keep up to date with the changes in drum specification. Here at STS this is vital in the designing and manufacturing of drum handling equipment. Extensive research takes place every couple of months and sampling drums allows STS to keep up to date with changes in the drum handling market.

If you are unsure of your own drums please check our drum suitability documents or send us some images of your drums on site and we would be happy to assess your drums and provide you with a drum handling solution.

As for current changes on the market L ring tight head drums have been brought out in a 220-litre variant. Most drum handling equipment on the market will not suit this drum type but here at STS we have engineered all are units to be compatible with this current change in size.
