Lubrication maintenance of spare equipment bearings should not be neglected
Bearing and lubrication maintenance for standby equipment is far from receiving the same attention as for operating equipment.
It is widely believed that spare equipment is not in operation and that bearings and lubrication do not need additional attention. This is not the case:
❗ When standby equipment is stationary and not in operation, lubricant degradation varies from part to part, and the lack of circulation or churning of the lubricant does not ensure that the lubricant is located in the various parts of the equipment, resulting in certain areas being unprotected.
❗ At the same time, because the lubricant does not flow, contaminants cannot be filtered out through the filter, resulting in dirt deposits and ultimately deterioration of the lubrication system.
❗ Another issue to consider is water contamination due to temperature differences. During the day when the temperature is high, the water content of the lubricant decomposition will rise, but at night when the external temperature is lowered, the higher humidity of the air touches the equipment shell will condense again.
Therefore, the maintenance team should also pay attention to the maintenance of bearings and lubrication of standby equipment, such as regularly switching between running equipment and standby equipment operation, and setting up operation and maintenance cycles to implement preventive maintenance.
