Why is it necessary to label packaging? Types and functions
At UBS we have designed a very brief guide where we explain what function packaging has, how it is classified and what is the best way to label or code it.
Labeling a package is a crucial process in the supply chain. First, it serves to clearly identify the contents of the package, providing information such as name, lot, barcode and description. In addition, it enables efficient tracking throughout the supply chain by including data such as date of manufacture, expiration date and place of origin. It also ensures compliance with industry-specific regulations and provides vital consumer information such as ingredients and expiration dates.
Packaging types are divided into three main groups: primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary packaging directly protects the product from external factors and serves aesthetic functions. Secondary packaging groups and protects multiple products already individually packaged, facilitating their commercialization. Finally, tertiary packaging groups and protects multiple secondary and/or primary packages to optimize storage and transportation in the supply chain. These types of packaging play a vital role in the preservation, presentation and efficient distribution of products in the global marketplace.
