Super Capacitor (Ultracapacitor) that stores electrical energy through electrostatic charge separation

Super Capacitor

A Super Capacitor (also called an Ultracapacitor or Electric Double-Layer Capacitor, EDLC) is an advanced energy storage device that stores electrical energy through electrostatic charge separation rather than chemical reactions used in conventional batteries.

Super capacitors provide very high power density, extremely fast charging/discharging capability, and very long cycle life, making them suitable for applications requiring rapid energy exchange, short-duration backup power, and peak power support.

Main Functions
Super capacitors are used for:
·Short-term energy storage
·Power quality improvement
·Voltage stabilization
·Peak power shaving
·Ride-through power support
·Regenerative energy recovery
·Battery life extension
·Backup power for critical systems

Working Principle
Unlike batteries, which store energy through chemical reactions, super capacitors store energy in an electric field between electrodes.
When charged:
·Ions accumulate on electrode surfaces.
·An electric double layer is formed.
·Energy is stored electrostatically.
When discharged:
·Stored ions move back through the electrolyte.
·Electrical energy is released immediately.
