Center Break Disconnector (Center Break Isolator) is a high-voltage switching device used in substations to isolate electrical equipment from the power system after the circuit has been de-energized. Unlike a circuit breaker, it cannot interrupt load current or fault current. Its purpose is to provide a visible isolation gap for maintenance and safety.

Working Principle
The center break disconnector consists of two movable contact arms connected to insulators.
·Closed position: Both arms meet at the center, completing the electrical path.
·Open position: The arms rotate away from each other, creating a clearly visible air gap that confirms the circuit is isolated.

The operation is usually driven by:
·Motor-operated mechanism (remote control)
·Manual operating handle
·Electrical interlocks with circuit breakers

The normal operating sequence is:
1.Open the circuit breaker.
2.Verify current is zero.
3.Open the center break disconnector.
4.Close the earthing switch if maintenance is required.
