Working Principle
An EAF transformer receives high-voltage power from the utility grid and steps it down to a relatively low voltage while delivering very high current to the furnace electrodes. During operation:
1.High-voltage AC power is supplied to the transformer.
2.The transformer reduces the voltage to the level required by the furnace.
3.Current flows through graphite electrodes.
4.An electric arc forms between the electrodes and the metal charge.
5.The arc generates temperatures exceeding 3,000°C, melting scrap steel or other metals.
6.The transformer's tap changer adjusts the output voltage throughout the melting process to optimize efficiency and arc stability.
