EIDE LPB Ball Torque Limiter Series

New Heavy-Duty Sizes

EIDE, the Barcelona-based manufacturer of brakes, clutches, and torque limiters, has expanded its LPB ball torque limiter series with three new sizes: LPB-98, LPB-113, and LPB-166, covering torque ranges up to 600 Nm.

The LPB series is a mechanical overload protection solution designed to disconnect the driving and driven elements when the transmitted torque exceeds a preset value. The operating principle is based on spring-loaded balls seated in precision housings. When the overload threshold is reached, the balls disengage from their seats, the torque transmission is interrupted, and the downstream components are protected from damage. Once the obstruction or overload condition is cleared, the unit resynchronises automatically within one full rotation, with no manual reset and no replacement of parts required.

Three sizes for demanding applications

The new additions cover a wide range of shaft diameters and torque requirements:

The LPB-98 accepts shafts up to 25 mm and handles torques up to 150 Nm. The LPB-113 covers shaft diameters up to 35 mm with a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The LPB-166, the largest of the three, accommodates shafts up to 45 mm and transmits up to 600 Nm. All three models are available in the standard 360-degree configuration with a single synchronisation position and in multi-position variants with synchronisation angles of 120, 90, and 72 degrees for applications requiring more frequent reconnection points.

Purely mechanical protection

The LPB requires no electronics, sensors, or control signals to operate. Response to an overload condition is immediate and independent of the machine's control system, which makes it suitable for high-speed applications and environments where electrical components are not practical. The torque setting is adjusted mechanically via the spring preload and remains stable across the service life of the unit.

Typical applications include packaging machinery, conveyors, industrial robots, extruders, machine tools, agricultural equipment, and access control systems.

Integration and customization

The LPB is available with standard bore diameters or with custom shaft configurations on request. The compact body allows direct integration between shaft and driven element without additional support structures. Pulleys, sprockets, and other transmission elements can be mounted directly on the outer body of the limiter.
