EIDE Supplies Mechanical Power Transmission Components for Pallet Manufacturing Lines
Toothed clutches for cyclic and indexing applications
Pallet manufacturing machines run hard. Nail guns, press systems, and handling conveyors operate in continuous cycles, and the drivetrain absorbs impact loads that would destroy a standard coupling in a short time. Protecting that drivetrain without adding complexity to the control system is a recurring challenge for machine builders in the wood and pallet industry.
EIDE, the Barcelona-based manufacturer of brakes, clutches, and torque limiters with over 70 years of experience, supplies two families of mechanical components specifically suited to this type of application: toothed clutches and torque limiters.
Toothed clutches for cyclic and indexing applications
The EN, NE/CD, SED, and ECD toothed clutches transmit motion between shafts with positive, slip-free engagement. Unlike friction-based clutches, toothed designs maintain a fixed angular relationship between input and output, which makes them the right choice for applications where positioning, timing, and repeatability matter. In pallet manufacturing lines, they handle the intermittent drive cycles of press systems, feed mechanisms, and indexing tables where not every axis runs continuously and precise phase relationships between shafts need to be maintained cycle after cycle.
The EN and NE/CD are pneumatically actuated, suitable for high-frequency engagement in automated lines. The SED and ECD are electromagnetically actuated, offering fast response times and easy integration with the machine's electrical control system.
Torque limiters for drivetrain protection
The LPC friction disc torque limiter and the LPB ball torque limiter both act as a mechanical fuse between the drive and the working element. When a jam, blockage, or foreign object generates excess torque in the drivetrain, the limiter disconnects the transmission before the overload reaches the gearbox, motor, or structural elements of the machine.
The LPC operates by controlled slip through its friction disc system. It is well suited to applications with variable loads and high cycle rates, where a gradual response to overload is preferable. The LPB disconnects more abruptly via a ball-and-seat mechanism and resynchronizes automatically within one full rotation once the overload condition clears, with no manual reset required.
Both are purely mechanical solutions. No electronics, no sensors, no dependency on control signals to protect the machine. In a production environment where downtime is costly, that simplicity is an advantage.
