FIBERSCOPE Introduces Optional Tripod Meter Counter for STRAHL Deep-Well Camera Systems

The wellhead accessory guides the camera cable and tracks the deployed length during vertical inspections.

FIBERSCOPE has introduced an optional tripod meter counter for STRAHL well camera inspections, including use with the STRAHL HDL deep well and borehole camera.
The accessory is positioned above the well opening to create a stable cable entry and measurement point. As the cable passes through the tripod, the counter tracks the deployed length. This helps operators maintain a defined cable path, reduce unnecessary contact with the casing rim, and link recorded images or video to a depth reference.
Deep inspections may require hundreds of feet of cable to pass through the opening as the operator monitors the camera, controls the winch, and records observations. If the reel cannot be placed directly over the casing, the cable may enter at an angle or need continuous manual guidance. The tripod provides support at this critical point." The hardest part is often not seeing the problem, but documenting exactly where it is,” said Terry, Sales Specialist at FIBERSCOPE. “The tripod meter counter gives contractors a reliable reference point at the wellhead so the depth on the report matches what was observed on screen.”
The tripod works alongside the STRAHL HDL’s motorized winch and on-screen depth display:
● The winch manages cable deployment and retrieval.
● The tripod guides the cable at the wellhead.
● The counter provides a deployed-length reference at the entry point.
● The inspection record links the depth note to the recorded visual evidence.
The accessory is ideal for deep wells, restricted work areas, offset winch placement, and inspections requiring multiple documented observations at different depths. For shallow wells with direct reel alignment, hand guidance, as well as the winch alone, may be sufficient.

Depth readings support planning for pump removal, cleaning, casing work, rehabilitation, or further inspection. They should be treated as cable-depth references, not surveyed elevations or defect measurements. Operators should establish the starting reference and record any offset from the top of the casing.
