Installation of a weighing station at APM Terminals Valencia

APM TERMINALS - PORT CARGO MANAGEMENT

Giropes has carried out the manufacture, installation and automation of a new weighing system in the terminal of APMT Valencia, a company dedicated to the intermodal exchange and storage of containers that operates within the facilities of the Valencian Port Authority.

The new installation of 3 BPGMO model truck scales complements an existing weighing station consisting of 2 BPGSM weighbridges designed and manufactured by Giropes.

The automation of the scales has a new version of Gestruck software, designed and implemented by Giropes according to the customer's needs. This software complements an installation that has GST2 self-service terminals in all the scales and different control elements for the management of the entry and exit of trucks from the scales such as barriers, licence plate recognition cameras and traffic lights.

The increase in lorry traffic entering and leaving APM Terminals Valencia has led to the expansion of the weighing station from 2 to 5 scales to meet the new weighing needs. In addition, the entire weighing station has been automated, both in the newly installed scales and in those already existing before the expansion.

The truck weighing station is managed by APM Terminals, which, opting for a semi-automatic weighing system, has met the new needs as well as having greater control and management of the installation.

APM Terminals is one of the most important port companies in the sector, managing a total of 75 container terminals around the world. In this case, the terminal located within the facilities of the Port of Valencia is one of the main terminals in Spain and in the Mediterranean Sea as a whole.

APM Terminals operates one of the most comprehensive port networks in the world. The multinational is uniquely positioned to help both shippers and end customers grow their business and achieve greater supply chain efficiency, flexibility and reliability. The team of 21,000 industry professionals is focused on delivering the operational excellence and solutions businesses need to reach their potential. The 75 terminals in its global network are operated by APM Terminals on an exclusive basis, or together with a partner. This means the management of some 250 ship calls per day and 40 million TEUs per year. APM Terminals is part of A.P. Moller - Maersk.

The expansion and subsequent automation of the weighing system in charge of managing the entry and exit of trucks from the terminal has allowed doubling the number of trucks on the scales, obtaining the net weight of more than 600 containers per day, equivalent to a total of approximately 1,200 weighings per day.
