What is Zinc Plating

Zinc Plating For Metal Parts

Galvanizing is a protective process that coats metal surfaces with zinc to prevent corrosion. The zinc layer acts as a shield, keeping air and moisture away from the metal. Even if the zinc coating is scratched, it oxidizes first, safeguarding the metal underneath.

There are two common methods of galvanizing: hot-dip galvanizing and electroplating.

Hot-dip galvanizing involves dipping metal into molten zinc to create a thick, durable coating. This method is often used for outdoor structures like bridges, fences, and utility poles due to its excellent rust protection.

Electroplating uses an electrochemical process to apply a thin zinc layer, giving the metal a smooth and shiny finish. This technique is ideal for items like small hardware and appliance parts that need both protection and an attractive appearance.

The blue zinc plating commonly seen on screws and nuts adds a sleek, slightly blue-tinted silver finish while enhancing rust resistance, making it both functional and visually appealing.
