Greater Efficiency with Tandem Self-Propelled Transporters

In heavy industry, we often need to handle loads of various sizes and weights, requiring self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) with different dimensions and capacities. To optimize the range of loads that these platforms can move, it is possible to couple two self-propelled transporters in two platforms working in conjunction, transforming them into a larger platform with a higher load capacity.

This coupling is typically achieved through mechanical joints and a software modification to the driving programs, allowing the two platforms to be controlled as a single unit. Unfortunately, the mechanical coupling process takes time and is often not convenient, especially if it needs to be performed frequently.

To optimize this process and enhance efficiency, Italcarrelli has developed an innovative system that enables tandem coupling of two SPMT without any mechanical connection.

Thanks to this system, the two platforms are linked via a radio connection, and special sensors ensure perfectly synchronized and highly precise movement. As a result, despite the absence of mechanical connections, the operator can control them with a single remote control as if they were one platform.

This means that the operator can set the distance between the two machines based on the load to be handled. Once the tandem mode is activated, the two platforms automatically adjust their driving programs according to this distance.
