Smart AC Charging for Buildings and Destination Charging: IVY METERING Launches AEC-21Y-G1 EVSE Controller
A compact 7kW/21kW OEM AC charging module integrating charging control, Class 1.0 energy metering, leakage protection and multi-interface communication for residential, commercial and operator projects.
As electric vehicle adoption continues to accelerate, charging infrastructure is no longer only a matter of installing more high-power DC fast chargers along highways. A growing share of charging demand is moving into homes, apartment buildings, workplaces, hotels, shopping centers and community parking areas. In these locations, AC charging remains one of the most practical and cost-effective ways to support daily charging, especially when projects require flexible installation, controlled power output, user authorization and remote operation.
This trend is also being reinforced by policy. In Europe, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) sets deployment targets for public charging infrastructure and emphasizes interoperability, payment options, price transparency and smart recharging. At the building level, the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) includes provisions on EV recharging points and requires recharging points to support smart charging where relevant. For charge point operators, property owners and charger manufacturers, the next stage of AC charging is therefore not only about power, but also about safety, metering, connectivity and platform-ready control.
To support this market shift, IVY METERING introduces the AEC-21Y-G1 AC EVSE Controller, a smart charging module designed for OEM AC EV chargers and integrated charging pile solutions. The module supports both single-phase and three-phase charging, delivering up to 7.4kW in single-phase applications and up to 21kW in three-phase applications, with a maximum charging current of 32A. This allows one compact module to adapt to different electrical environments and project requirements, from private home garages to commercial parking facilities and community charging stations.
The AEC-21Y-G1 integrates charging control, energy metering and leakage protection into a DIN-rail mountable design. Built-in Class 1.0 energy metering enables charging data to be recorded and uploaded in real time, helping operators monitor consumption, manage billing logic and improve operation visibility. For charger manufacturers, this integrated approach can reduce system complexity and simplify cabinet design compared with assembling multiple independent components.
Safety is a key requirement for AC charging equipment used in public and semi-public locations. The AEC-21Y-G1 provides comprehensive protection functions, including AC 30mA and DC 6mA leakage detection, over-voltage and under-voltage protection, over-current protection, over-temperature protection, short-circuit protection, overload protection, grounding protection, surge and lightning protection, emergency stop input and open-cover detection. These functions help improve charger reliability and support safer charging operation in residential and commercial environments.
For smart charging and operator management, the module supports multiple communication and authorization options, including 4G, RS485, Bluetooth and NFC. It can support local plug-and-play charging, NFC card authorization, online authorization, prepayment and mobile-payment-related operating models through operator platforms. The built-in LCD display, LED status indicators and touch-sensitive buttons also provide a clear local user interface for charging status, energy consumption, charging time and fault information.
The module is suitable for AC wallbox manufacturers, charging pile OEMs, parking lot operators, apartment and property management projects, long-term rental facilities and destination charging scenarios. With a compact size of 123.5 x 110 x 75mm, DIN-rail installation and an operating temperature range of -25°C to 70°C, it is designed for flexible integration into different charger enclosures and project environments.
As EV charging infrastructure becomes more connected and service-oriented, AC chargers need to support more than basic power delivery. They must combine accurate metering, intelligent control, user authorization, remote data access and safety protection in one reliable architecture. With the AEC-21Y-G1, IVY METERING provides a practical smart charging core for OEMs and operators building the next generation of residential, commercial and community AC EV charging solutions.
