Jornen Blister Packaging Line in Europe

Jornen Blister Packaging Line in Europe

Recently, Jornen provided a blister packaging line for a European customer. This line is a combination of three units: the Blister Packaging Machine DPP260Ki-2, the Cartoning Machine ZH150 and the Stretch-BandingMachine.

The Blister Packaging Machine is equipped with a the camera inspection system, suitable for both the alu-pvc and alu-alu blister pack in one system. The system is equipped with two illuminants: one is mounted above the formed web, together with the camera lens, and faces downward to the formed and products fed web; the other is installed under the web. When the blister machine is running for the alu-pvc pack, the illuminant under the web emits light and the camera takes images of this area of the web to see whether any empty pockets are present. For normally fed pockets, the light from the illuminant is blocked by tablets. But when an empty pocket appears, the light will shine through this pocket (because the PVC is transparent) and this image is identified as an empty pocket. For the alu-alu pack, where the forming material is opaque, the illuminant under the web will stop working. Instead, the illuminant above the web emits light to the tablets and the alu film. The light then is reflected by the tablets and the alu film. Because the light reflection from the tablets and alu film differs, the camera images of this area can identify the empty pockets by analyzing their different reflective properties.

The requirements for the blister inspection system vary among different pharmaceutical companies, for instance, inspection of empty pockets only, or inspection for crushed, powdered, fragments, wrong color, wrong size, etc. With 30 years experience creating blister packaging machines, we are driven to provide the best solutions to meet customers’ requirements.

The heart of a Blister Line is the connection unit between the Blister Machine and the Cartoner. In this line, the connection phase adopts two vacuum arms. After the blister cards are punched upward, the first vacuum arm collects and places them in the rejecting station where the faulty blister card (with empty pocket) will be rejected and fall into a container. The qualified blister cards then are collected by the second vacuum arm and placed on the conveyer belt that leads to the cartoning machine. In the cartoning unit, the blister cards are inserted into a carton together with a leaflet. After embossing and closing, the cartons are discharged and transferred to the Stretch-Banding Machine, where the cartons are stacked together to form larger units. These are then tightly wrapped in plastic film. Compared with shrink-wrapper and overwrapper, this machine is energy-saving as it does not require heating up. It saves 50% of film materials because it partially covers the packaging.

Since this Line uses a transfer belt to connect the Blister Machine, the Cartoning Machine and the Stretch-Banding Machine, it provides easy changeover for different sizes of formats and cartons.

This Blister Line adopts a fully enclosed structure and safety door, and meets the most stringent European safety standards.
