ATS-342: transfer switch controller for power systems with dual, “redundant” backup generators

Kutai Electronics manufactures a complete line of programmable Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) controllers that will work with all types and brands of transfer switches and motorized changeover switches, providing a high level of flexibility and control to any backup power system.

Kutai manufactures specific ATS controllers for different backup power system configurations, including Utility-to-Generator, Generator-to-Generator, and Utility-to-Utility systems.

The Kutai ATS-342 is a unique ATS controller specifically designed to control a second transfer switch (ATS) in power systems with two – “redundant” - backup generators. (Please visit the ATS-342 product page on our Kutai website www.kutai.com.tw to view a diagram of a typical installation.)

When the Mains (Normal) power fails the ATS controller for the primary transfer switch sends a signal to the ATS-342 to start one of the two backup generators and transfer genset power to the primary transfer switch Emergency input. When the backup generator power is ready the primary ATS will the switch over to Emergency power.

The ATS-342 can be programmed to select which backup generator to start first based on duty time or start-run attempts. If the selected generator times out, or has already run a certain number of times, the ATS-342 will send a start signal to the other generator and also designate it as the lead generator.

The ATS-342 is controlled by the primary ATS controller that both monitors Mains (Normal) power and also controls the primary transfer switch. Our Kutai ATS-22A and ATS-PLC are excellent choices as primary controllers and will work seamlessly with the ATS-342. However, the ATS-342 will, in fact, work with any primary ATS controller that can provide a “Remote Start” output.

All Kutai programmable ATS controllers have an expansion slot that allows addition of an optional “KCU-“ communication module to enable remote monitoring and control of any ATS using a Kutai ATS controller. KCU- modules are available for Ethernet, Wi-Fi, RS-485, and our new KCU-50 GSM module coming out later this year.

The RS-485 communication module further enables connection to our RA-485 Remote Annunciator. The RA-485 can control and display the status of up to four transfer switches or genset controllers simultaneously, allowing monitoring and control of your entire power system from one touch screen.
